Effects of Low Temperature and Hot Water Treatment to the Dormant Bulbs on the Leaf Emergences of Bulblets during Scale Propagation of Easter Lily (Lilium longiflorum Thunb.)

Abstract
This experiment was carried out to investigate the effect of low temperature and hot water treated to the dormant bulbs on the leaf emergence from bulblets formed during the scale propagation of Easter lily (Lilium longiflorum Thunb. `Georgia¢¥ and `Hinomoto¢¥) and to clarify the correlation between the leaf emergence of bulblets and the changes of endogenous grow th regulators in parents scales.
On the scale propagation of the bulbs broken the dormancy by the low temperature treatment, the leaf emergence from bulblets was inhibited in both cultivars. The activity of endogenous auxins in the scales of bulbs broken the dormancy by low temperature treatment was increased, compared with that of non-treatment. However, the activity of endogenous gibberellins was not determined. During the storage after low temperature treatment the activity of endogenous auxins and gibberellins was determined in the shoots sprouted out from parent bulbs.
In the case of scale propagation immediately after soaking the dormant bulbs in hot water the leaf emergence from bulblets was not promoted in both cultivars. The activity of the endogenous auxins was much more increased in the scales of the dormant bulbs treated with hot water, compared with that of non-treatment. However, the activity of the endogenous gibberellins was not determined.
